Welcome to the Geoinformatics Lab at SDSC!

The geoinformatics lab at the San Diego Super Computer Center (University of California, San Diego) conducts research in information technology and its application to the geoscience research and education.  Incorporating information technology (IT) tools in the earth sciences holds a great potential to revolutionize the earth science research and open new avenues for earth scientists and educators.  Our primary goal is to advance earth sciences through utilization of state-of-the-art IT tools.  The lab personnel include both earth scientists as well as computer science researchers.  This multidisciplinary, cooperative approach provides strengths to our activities and enables us to solve critical problems related to the earth sciences. The lab conducts research in areas ranging from building earth science information systems to scientific portals, spatial data management, high performance computing and simulation, scientific workflows, visualization and web-based educational learning material development.
