Scientific Workflows

In our lab we strive for building a scientific workflow system that will allow seismologists to interactively design scientific processing modules and execute them efficiently using Grid-based applications and distributed computing. The workflow technology that we use is the Kepler workflow infrastructure being built by a consortium of developers (www.kepler-project.org).  A Kepler-based seismological workflow environment will allow seismologists as well as other earth scientists to build their processing environments using visual programming and run their analyses on both local and distributed resources.  Once developed, a scientific workflow can be re-used, shared and revised/modified by any member of the community.    Our research will provide seismologists an informatics platform to conduct high quality research and education.  Accessing data, analysis codes, and visualization tools will eliminate redundancy in research efforts. Through the publication of workflows and search mechanisms to discover existing ones users will be able to access, share and re-use workflows that are being developed by the members of the community.
